Saaremaa and Kuressaare

As Jana wrote in her article, from Pärnu you can easily visit some Estonian islands, which are situated in Baltic sea. Really close from Pärnu is small island Kihnu, but we decided to visit the largest one – Saaremaa.

On Saaremaa is a quite a lot of places, which really worth to visit. Unfortunately during our visit wasn’t good weather to explore nature beauties of this island. If you want to explore nature on Saaremaa, there is one useful thing – website visitestonia.com. There you can find information about whole island.

Our steps aimed to the Kuressaare, the largest city on the island. For reaching the island we can definitely recommend rent a car and on the island be completely independent. One thing to note here, you have to use ferry. But don’t worry, ferries there are really small and boarding is really fun. You can just arrive to terminal, pay (in summer 2014 about 8 Euros / car, 2,5 Euros / student, check info here) .

Indeed, ferry to Saaremaa!

After landing you can proceed directly along the way to Kuressaare. Drive take approximately one hour. Main reason, why we wanted to visit this city was beautiful castle, whose pictures you can find everywhere if you are searching for things to do in Kuressaare. And truth is, it worth it! After castle you can take little walk around the beach and get lunch in the old city center.
